| Over 100,000 private sector jobs to be lost on Oct 1 if Congress fails to act on extending jobs bill - Help us keep America employed! Take action. What you can do right now Step 1a. If you are a TANF/ECF employee, friend or concerned citizen and only have 60 seconds; Send a free electronic email petition to Congressional representatives to have "TANF Emergency Contingency Funding" included in the "Extenders Bill". This bill is revenue neutral and is funded with tax offsets. Step 1b. If you have 5 minutes; Make 3 phone calls to Washington –these three representatives are instrumental in getting a bill to the House floor for a vote: Representative Nancy Pelosi’s office, Speaker of the House: 415 556 4862 Senator Levin’s office, Chair of House Ways and Means: 202 225 3625 Senator Voinovich, Ohio: 202 225 3625 The phone message is simple: when the staffer answers the phone, introduce yourself and say, “Please support the extension to the TANF Emergency Contingency Funding. I want to keep Americans working.” Step 3. If you can help us expand the message to the 35 states that have used this program to put people back to work; Please pass this message (and web link) on to all your employees, friends, and email contacts. Our goal is to reach as many Americans associated with the benefits of this program and to ask Congress to fund this legislation. NOTE: This legislation is revenue neutral and is funded with tax offsets. Step 4. What is TANF and why action is needed now? 100,000 jobs are at risk if the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Emergency Contingency Fund is not extended by September 30th. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families/Emergency Contingency Funding program is the standout successful program of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This program benefits both sides of Main Street, the employer and the employee. It is a hand up, not a hand up. We are 145 formerly unemployed parents out of 235,000 people hired with TANF funds. We are not collecting unemployment, we are working and working hard. We are proud!
